PIKIRAN RAKYAT - The Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin), is calling for a cyber revolution to combat online gambling that has infiltrated all areas and sectors.
He believes the government must take the issue of online gambling seriously. In a written statement, Cak Imin urged a revolutionary approach to Indonesia's cyber system to save people from online gambling addiction.
He highlighted the pervasive presence of online gambling sites on many internet pages, stating that this alone damages Indonesia's overall cyber defense image. He noted that the situation on the ground shows how weak Indonesia's cybersecurity system is.
"We constantly hear news about online gambling, and the number of victims keeps increasing. I think the government needs to be more serious in tackling this issue. It's time for a cyber revolution," Muhaimin said on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

Cak Imin also said that the existence of these online gambling websites are very disturbing. Online gambling has become serious issue for Indonesian families. Therefore, there needs to be systematic and comprehensive tracking and removal of all online gambling content. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of fixing and finding any open loopholes.
"So, it is not enough to just go after the users; they would not be gambling if there were not a platform. The most important thing is to eliminate the content, the websites, and the operators," he said.
In the same statement, the former vice-presidential candidate from the Coalition for Change also praised the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) for revealing findings about legislative members involved in online gambling.
